Washington, DC soul auteur William DeVaughn scored a #1 hit in 1974 with "Be Thankful For What You Got", which remains an endlessly covered standard and feel-good summertime anthem 50 years later.
DeVaughn the reluctant star released only three albums over a 35 year period. The second, from 1980, was titled "Figures Can't Calculate", here re-packaged as "Be Thankful for What You've Got".
The LP features a disco-flavored re-cut of the "Be Thankful", covers of golden oldies "You Send Me" and "Never Found Me A Girl", and DeVaughn's trademark melodic funk and earnest sweet soul.
